On 25 April 2017, Vietthink Law Firm & Intellectual Property Agent attended Seminar on “Intellectual Property – Improving competitiveness and increasing value of business through intellectual property” which was hold by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (“VCCI”), the National Office of Intellectual Property (“NOIP”) and Vietnam Intellectual Property Association (“VIPA”). The Seminar is organized on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, 26 April 2017, which is expected to bring a new perspective on the value and brand names of enterprises through Intellectual Property assets.  
Attending the Seminar were Mr. Dinh Huu Phi, General Director of the NOIP, Mrs. Ha Nguyet Thu, Center for Research and Training of the NOIP, Mr. Mai Ha – VIPA President, Mrs. Pham Thi Thu Hang, General Secretary of the VCCI together with members of VIPA, a number of domestic and foreign companies and media agencies. Vietthink attended the Seminar as a member of VIPA, at the same time, was one of the sponsors of the Seminar.
At the beginning of the Seminar, Mr. Dinh Huu Phi - General Director of the NOIP, Mr. Mai Ha – VIPA President, Mrs. Pham Thi Thu Hang - General Secretary of the VCCI delivered the opening speech and chaired the Seminar.
Opening the Seminar, Mr. Nguyen Linh, Strategy Director of brand Soyon introduced the discussion on “Some issues in building and development of brands for enterprises”. As a experiential businessman in guiding, contribution and development of small and big domestic and international brands, Mr. Linh gave our his analysis about popular and widely-recognized trademarks and from such analysis, he also consulted enterprises in contribution and creation of their marks when entering the market.     
Mrs. Ha Nguyen Thu, Center for Research and Training of the NOIP introduced the roles of Geographical Indications for enterprises. According to her introduction, Geographical Indications brings many benefits to the manufacturers, consumers and the sociality. Intellectual property rights, in particular geographical indications, contribute to the success of the business, especially for succeed of the goods bearing the Geographical Indications and confirm the value of the real-existed goods in the market. While trademarks have been used to market for an individual/enterprise, Geographical Indications are a direct market tool for a team with a support of local authorities which creating benefits to the team and each of individual in such team.
Following the presentation of Mrs. Thu, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Partner of Vision & Associates presented notes for enterprises on copyright protection in the context of development of cultural industries. Apart from the introduction on legal basis on copyrights, Mrs. Ha also gave out some cases of copyright infringements in Vietnam and answered some questions from delegates attending the meeting.
The last presentation came from Mr. Phan Phuong Linh, Deputy Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam Ltd., Co. on valuation of Intellectual Property Assets. Mr. Linh referred to the role and importance of brand and determined the fair value of the brand. Brand is one of important assets which enterprise has to protect.
Intellectual Property asset is intangible asset of the business and plays a very important role for every business, especially in the current fierce competition. Over the years, awareness of intellectual property asset has been paid more attention by businesses and such assets are increasingly valued.
